Welcome to my 2nd edutainment book. As always, I curated this literature with you in mind.
In 2014, I started traveling and performing in the Broadway hit show “Motown the Musical.” After conducting and teaching multiple Master Classes, I remember feeling empty. I continually asked myself, “If all of these talented students are pursuing the same thing – being onstage and the next star, then who’s going to balance the system and pursue other unpopular, less considerable non-traditional careers in the Arts?”
Fast-forward to the pandemic. Because no one, and I mean, no one was authorized to occupy live venues and perform, I immediately knew it was time to put my Bachelor of Music Business degree from the University of Southern California to use. I began weekly Music Supervision sessions/training with my mentor Dawn Soler, former Senior Vice President of TV Music at ABC Signature, a The Walt Disney Company branch. After securing my first job, “That Damn Michael Che” show, I realized a constant and obvious lack of seeing more black and brown talents in key non-traditional careers in television and film. And that’s where a lightbulb went off.
If you, like me, attend a movie and remain in your seat until the end of the credits roll then this is the book for you. In “100 Careers to Know in Film and Television,” I desire to educate you on the unlimited and vast careers in television and film.
Now’s your time to learn a new skill or new software, and test your knowledge about all that God has given you. Now’s the time to explore more careers that your school may not teach. Now’s the time to think big. Now’s the time to grab a pen, and let’s go in.
